Une excellente année pour la littérature d’horreur. Quatre de mes cinq choix s’y apparentent (et c’est sans compter les quelques romans que je n’ai pas encore lus).
1. MY FAVORITE THING IS MONSTERS
Chef d’œuvre. Total. Absolu. Un classique instantané. Aussi inventif et monumental que le Watchmen de Moore. À lire, faire lire et relire, aujourd’hui, demain, dans 30 ans. VF a paraître fin 2018 et la seconde partie (en VO) cet été.

2. LA BELLE SAUVAGE
Pullman est de retour et ne déçoit pas. Là aussi un classique instantané. On attend la suite avec fébrilité.
Résumé: À l’auberge de la Truite, tenue par ses parents, Malcolm, onze ans, voit passer de nombreux visiteurs. Tous apportent leurs aventures et leur mystère dans ce lieu chaleureux. Certains sont étrangement intéressés par le bébé nommé Lyra et son dæmon Pantalaimon, gardés par les nonnes du prieuré tout proche. Qui est cette enfant ? Pourquoi est-elle ici ? 3. THE BURNING WORLD
Le bijou caché de 2017. Relatif succès critique mais flop public incompréhensible. Isaac Marion est au sommet de son art et une des trois ou quatre plus belles voix de la littérature d’horreur contemporaine mondiale. Et ce sens du rythme!

Un tour de force narratif et une merveille d’érudition littéraire à la structure vertigineuse. Pour les amateurs de Lovecraft, des Futurians, de la pulp fiction et de l’histoire des débuts de la SF américaine.

Hill est décidément de plus en plus le fils de son père: complètement tordu, à l’imaginaire délirant et n’ayant pas peur des sujets casse-gueules. Violent, perturbant et limite malsain, de l’horreur pure. Son meilleur livre avec NOS4A2.
